Houma Social Security Office

Vermilion Properties, LLC was fortunate enough to be successful in securing the contract to construct this new facility for the Social Security Administration and the Office of Disability Adjudication and Review in Houma, Louisiana. The facility is sited on a 2.5 acre plot in a professional office park setting. The building itself is approximately 14,750 SF in size and is mostly an open plan configuration with offices on the perimeter and public access limited to the front areas only. The facility is constructed utilizing wood frame construction with wood roof trusses and a single ply membrane roof with a brick and stucco skin. As this project was very competitive during the offering phase, we attempted to bring a balance between giving the agency a presence of permanence and respect with cost, quality, and long term maintenance. We explored different materials and finishes that brought a new approach toward SSA’s typical finish requirements. This project was required by the Social Security Administration to be a LEED SILVER certified project and was successfully designed and constructed to that standard. Additionally, through constant communication with the contractor during the offering, design, and construction phases, this facility was completed on time and in budget.
